Dharmesh Vyas, MD, PhD, is the Medical DIrector and Head Team Physician of the Pittsburgh Penguins Hockey Club. Dr. Vyas completed his residency in orthopaedic surgery at the University of Chicago Medical Center, and a surgical sports medicine fellowships at UPMC, Klinikum Rechts Der Isar in Munich, Germany, and Centre Albert Trillat in Lyon, France. Dr. Vyas is an associate professor of orthopedic surgery at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. He is board-certified orthopedic surgeon by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery with a subspecialty certification in sports medicine. He is also a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the American Orthopaedic Association, the Arthroscopy Association of North America, and the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine. He is also a consulting orthopaedic surgeon for Duquesne University and Carnegie Mellon University. He specializes in the care of young and experienced athletes, and trains residents and fellows in sports medicine. Dr. Vyas has extensive experience with treatment of shoulder (rotator cuff, labrum, instability, and arthritis), knee (ACL, PCL, meniscus, patella instability, osteotomy), and hip injuries (impingement/FAI, labrum, instability).
